Sunday Ruminations

St. Speedy of Schertz

We’ve got a family of Mockingbirds living in one of the Hackberry trees in our backyard.  I’ve seen & heard one of the adults chirping it’s warning to stay away each time I’ve taken the Barky Boys outside.  I distinctly remember telling the mama (or daddy, they look alike) to not let the babies fall out of the nest.  Well, one of the babies did fall out and I didn’t see it until after I had let the Boys out.  They saw it at the same time I did.  Poor little thing didn’t have a chance.  I was visibly & loudly upset with them.  I know what you’re saying … they’re dogs.  That’s what they do.  I know this.  But I am passionate about animals.  I hate to see them hurt or abused.  I have a couple of campuses where stray dogs run rampant.  That bothers me.  If I could, I’d bring them all home.

I also understand the “circle of life” and know that animals feed on each other for survival.  Just because I know this doesn’t mean I want to see animals hunting and killing their prey.  I’m not a vegetarian, although I have explored the notion.  Hub wouldn’t support me in this, so rather than eliminate meat, I limit it.  It’s a compromise we have agreed with.

Bugs, wasps, spiders?  Whole ‘nuther story.

Road Warrior

I’ve found that I really enjoy volunteering at races my running club sponsors.  I’m going to be a course marshal at next weekend’s half marathon relay.  After runners pass my post on the course, I’ll head to the finish line to help snip off timing chips.  The volunteer coordinator e-mailed me and let me know I need to get something to eat between duties.  Hub asked if they were going to feed us.  I said I thought so as I was on the food krewe at the Birdlover’s 10K last week. I checked out the course location and other race information a little while ago.  Oh yeah.  We’ll be eating good.

The race sponsor?  Carraba’s Italian Restaurant.  Yum!

7 more days

I have 7 days left on this year’s contract.  I received my campuses for next year and I’m thrilled!  I’ll have the same campuses as I have this year.  The good Lord willing, a new supervisor will be hired over the summer and he or she will take over the vacant campuses.  Otherwise, it looks like I’ll be starting the new year with additional campuses.

{{sigh}} So be it.  Whatever happens, I’m thankful to be gainfully employed.  There are many in this country of our’s that aren’t and wish they were.
