Weekend wanderings

Update on THE FOOT …

I was allowed to work yesterday.  The doctor had placed some restrictions and so before I was able to actually work, I had to sign an agreement that I would abide by the restrictions as set forth by the doctor.

I realize all of the legality is for the district’s protection (read: so I don’t hurt myself worse at work while I continue to heal) and it’s because of this I have termed the next several days my “parole,” the person in risk management is my “parole officer,” and my limited duty agreement the “condition of my parole.” I head back to the doctor for yet another (and hopefully final) follow up to check on the progress of my healing early next week.  I’ll do whatever it takes to get the restrictions removed.  This whole ordeal has been more than a bother & I seriously feel like I’m being punished for being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

According to the conditions of my parole, I am only allowed to visit one campus per day and I can only review folders in preparation for the end-of-year transfer coming up in two weeks.

I violated my parole a mere 5 minutes after signing the agreement.  I needed to pick up some paperwork for the office at a campus near where I was scheduled to be working for the day and so I hobbled on in and picked up the packet I knew was waiting for me.

Devious me.

The Photog in Me …

I haven’t taken my camera out to practice very often but on the occasions I have, I’ve had a blast practicing with angles, lighting, composition, & shutter speeds.  I’m especially proud of my last series from the museum.  I didn’t do a whole lot of editing once I downloaded my pictures onto my computer, which means I’m getting better at my craft.  Either that or I’m really naive and don’t know what I’m doing in the editor’s chair. I hope to take a class before my trip to Hawaii but that will depend on whether I can find a class between now & then.  If not, I’ll just keep practicing and reading as many books on the subject as I can find.

On a Purely Selfish Note …

The Major is safely back on American soil.  I asked many people during his deployment to keep him lifted in prayer.  My parents did the same.  I wonder if he realizes how many folks had him on their daily prayer lists.  I wonder if he’s thanked those he knew were praying for him.  A huge THANK YOU to all my nameless brothers & sisters in Christ who faithfully prayed for his safety during his tour.  He’s home with his family now.  It’s always amazing and humbling to hear positive praise reports.

Major, if you haven’t done so already … call the Spook!  He’s been worried about you and would really like to hear your voice!

Support professional women athletes …

Mum called last weekend and asked if I’d like to go see the Silver Stars season opener tonite.  Don’t have to ask me twice!  I love the fact that San Antonio has it’s very own WNBA team and I will one day own a season pass.  Mum & I enjoy going to their games.  The atmosphere in the arena is different from when the men play.  Not to knock the men by any means!  The last Stars game Mum & I went to was the matinee game we took the Princess to last summer.  I like to think she & I spurred Princess’ interest in basketball … which, by the way, she totally rocked at when she played in her local youth league last fall!

I wonder if I can take my camera to the game tonite?

Speaking of athletes …

A mere 24 hours prior to the incident that rocked my world this week, I came across a notice for a 10k at the end of the month that my running group is hosting over at Mitchell Lake.  I have a complimentary race entry begging to be used (I actually have two) and I was all set to submit the entry form and kick my training into high gear this weekend.

Well … the table-on-foot incident has put the kibosh on the 10k.  I asked my doc when I’d be able to return to the road.  He said he’ll have a better indication once he checks my healing progress next week.  There’s also an untimed 5k race that day at Mitchell Lake. My doctor said this is more doable given my present status.  And so, with the words “untimed”  “5k” and “complimentary race entry” strongly highlighted in my conversation with Hub, I’ve convinced him to do the 5k with me. Pretty cool, eh?

Since it’s an untimed event, I’ll take my camera and get some more practice time in while we’re out there. It’s gonna be fun!
