It was about this time last year that several of my colleagues and I gathered a team to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The Writer even joined us for a couple of hours in the early morning to walk the track.
My colleagues and I are a whole lot more serious about what we’re doing this year. Cancer has made it’s ugly presence known in many of our lives and while we are still all about having a good time, we’re also hellbent on working as hard as we can to stamp out the many manifestations of this horrid disease.
Following is my fundraising letter. Please feel free to donate as you feel led:
Dear Family & Friends:
I’ve decided to take action against cancer by participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® event right here in my community.
Relay For Life® is about celebration, remembrance, and hope. By participating, I am honoring cancer survivors, paying tribute to the lives we’ve lost to the disease, and raising money to help fight it.
Please help support me in this important cause by making a donation. It is faster and easier than ever to support me by making a secure, tax-deductible donation online using the link below. If you would prefer, you can send your contribution to the mailing address listed below.
Whatever you can give will help – it all adds up! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

I didn’t do any fundraising for either Relay for Life or Race for the Cure last year, but I am this year. By the way … Laura, you rock! Thank you for providing support in the Race for the Cure!
Why the change in attitude, you might be asking.
Well, call it the wisdom of age. Or urgency.
Either way, cancer is an ugly word.
It’s an ugly disease.
It needs to be stopped.
