Mum & I were talking yesterday about the number of people we know that have either been recently diagnosed with cancer, are being treated for cancer, or have died from the disease.
Our conversation transitioned into preventive medicine and my deficiencies in maintaining my own preventative health regimen. “Why haven’t you made that phone call yet?” was followed by my hemming and hawing with a multitude of excuses.
The truth?
I keep forgetting.
It’s been on my mental “To Do” list for a couple of months, just like several other items have been for quite some time. Interestingly, I keep forgetting to take care of them, too. New rule for my Life List: If it’s important and must be done, WRITE IT DOWN.
Before I receive a plethora of comments exhorting me to take better care of myself, I scheduled my “Well Woman” appointment as soon as I got home from Mum’s house.
I’m glad you did that. You should have received your first mammogram by now … ? Even w/o family history (case in point, GMA’s Robin Roberts), it’s important. Important. Important. I can not believe I have not grilled you on getting your test done! I will be on your case from here on out 🙂
I’m proud of you for making the Well Woman appt. I know it will go well.
Yeah!!! Mother does know best. I’m glad to hear that you made that important phone call – don’t forget to keep the appointment!!! Love, Mom
Not to worry, Mom. I’m a woman of my word. If I say I’ll be there, I’ll be there.
Kym, I can’t believe how many things I’ve intended to do but have forgotten because they weren’t written down. Sad, really.
Lesson learned.
Love you both … me
I understand about writing things down … where would I be without that pad of paper and pen!!! I’m just so glad you’re going in to the appt — to hear you’re 100% healthy 🙂
Love you!
