A Place Where Everybody Knows Your Shoe Size

Hubby & I headed over to my favorite store yesterday morning to get him a pack to use while he walks.

So … why is it my favorite store?

It’s the place where I bought my first pair of running shoes and I’ll continue to go back for every new pair that I need. Any questions I have, they’re able to answer them. They are knowledgeable and helpful and actually seem to care about what goes on my feet. They won’t sell me the most expensive shoes in the store if that’s not what I need. I appreciate that.

The sales staff and owners are great for my self-esteem, too.

I was talking to the sales clerk as we were settling up our bill and she asked me what I’m training for now. I had on my race shirt from the ’06 San Antonio Half. I told her the San Antonio Half and then the Texas Half. She gave a nod of approval and then asked, “When’re you gonnna do a full? You should do a full!” I told her that I’m doing my first full for my 45th.

It won’t be the Portland next October as I had originally hoped because I’ll need to finish grad school AND THEN start training for my first full. I’m actually leaning toward the Nike Women’s in 2009. Since both are held in October, I’ll have to make my decision by Christmas ’08.

She looked at me and said, “45 is quite a long way off for you, isn’t it?” I looked at her and told her that it’s actually next year. She looked at me with astonishment and said she’d have never guessed that I’m as old as I am.

THAT, dear tatertots, is why this is my favorite store. : )

  1. The way I figure it, I only live once. TAKS tests shouldn’t dictate what I do on my own time, right? : )
