I completed my first 5k today. Granted I entered the untimed event at Race for the Cure because I promised my colleagues at work that I wouldn’t do the timed event.
Even though I didn’t have the adrenaline rush of competition, it was still great to get out this morning with ladies that I work with and don’t really know that well and spend a few hours with them waiting for our event to start and then actually “do” it.
And I finished with a fairly decent time.
As we were walking along, one of my buddies commented that she gets a special rush of giddiness when she passes teenagers. We walked along for a second or so and then I said, “I feel especially giddy whenever I pass ANYONE!” We all three laughed. And then we started looking for holes to squeeze through so we could pass people.
We must have done 3/4 of the race single file because we were taking turns finding holes and squeezing through. It just couldn’t be done if we continued on 3-abreast.
I had a great time today!
* Today was the first day we’ve had sunshine in almost two weeks.
* The weather was perfect.
* We were surrounded by 30,000 of our nearest and dearest friends.
* My new shooz are fabulous!
That said, today was exactly what I needed to motivate me to get back on track with my training schedule.
